Description The Prithvi-II is a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) developed by India, a successor to the Prithvi-I. It’s a single-stage, liquid-fueled missile with a longer range than its predecessor, approximately 250-350 km. Prithvi-II is capable of carrying conventional, chemical, or nuclear warheads, offering flexibility in its deployment. It utilizes an inertial navigation system for guidance, improving accuracy compared to the Prithvi-I. The missile is launched from a mobile transporter erector launcher (TEL), enhancing its survivability and deployment flexibility. It was first tested in 1996 and inducted into the Indian armed forces. Prithvi-II has a higher payload capacity than the Prithvi-I, allowing it to carry heavier warheads. It is a crucial component of India’s nuclear triad, providing a land-based delivery platform. The development of Prithvi-II marked a significant step in India’s indigenous missile program. It incorporates advancements in propulsion, guidance, and control systems. The missile’s liquid-fueled engine provides high thrust for a shorter burn time. Prithvi-II’s accuracy makes it a potent weapon against strategic targets. It has undergone several successful tests, demonstrating its reliability.
