| Description | The Dongfeng-11 (DF-11), DF-11A, and DF-11AZT are a series of Chinese short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs), playing a significant role in China’s conventional and potentially nuclear strike capabilities. The DF-11, the initial variant, is a solid-fueled, single-stage missile with a range of approximately 300 km. It’s primarily designed for conventional strikes against targets in close proximity. The DF-11A is an improved version with a longer range, estimated at around 600 km, enhancing its reach and target coverage. It maintains the solid-fueled propulsion and single-stage design of its predecessor. The DF-11AZT is a further development, believed to be a more accurate variant of the DF-11A. It is speculated to incorporate improved guidance systems, enhancing its precision against point targets. All three missiles are road-mobile, increasing their survivability and making them difficult to locate and neutralize. This mobility contributes to their tactical flexibility. The DF-11 series is primarily intended for regional conflicts and potential use against targets in nearby countries or territories. These SRBMs are conventionally armed, carrying high-explosive or other conventional warheads. While their primary role is conventional, there is speculation about their potential to carry nuclear warheads, adding a strategic dimension. The solid-fueled nature of these missiles allows for rapid deployment and launch, providing a quick-reaction capability. |
