Description The LCA Tejas is India’s indigenous light combat aircraft, developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited 1 (HAL). It is a single-engine, delta-wing fighter aircraft designed to replace the Indian Air Force’s aging MiG-21 fleet. The Tejas incorporates advanced technologies, including composite materials, a fly-by-wire flight control system, and an advanced avionics suite. The aircraft has undergone several developmental stages, with the initial operational clearance (IOC) granted in 2013 and final operational clearance (FOC) in 2019. Variants of the Tejas include the Tejas Mk1, Mk1A, and the more advanced Mk2. The Tejas Mk1A incorporates significant upgrades, including an improved Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS), a more powerful engine, and enhanced weapons integration capabilities. The Tejas program represents a significant milestone in India’s aerospace industry, demonstrating its capability in designing and manufacturing advanced military aircraft. It plays a crucial role in enhancing the Indian Air Force’s combat capabilities and strengthening India’s defense posture.
